One of the most common questions we get is “what size skip do I need?”, and the good news is it’s easier to work out than you might think. Skips come in a range of sizes, each suited to different projects, so whether you’re clearing a garden, renovating a kitchen or tackling a bigger build, there’s a skip that fits.
The information below gives you a quick look at our skip sizes so you can feel confident about your choice. For full dimensions, capacities and project-based recommendations, head over to our Skip Size Guide page.
Small Skips
- 4 yard skip: A popular choice for bathroom refits or small home projects. Holds around 30–40 bin bags.
- 6 yard skip: This skip fits around 50–60 bin bags. It’s a versatile choice for kitchen refits, DIY jobs, or slightly bigger garden projects.
These skips are compact enough for driveways and perfect when you’ve only got a small amount of waste.
Midi Skips
- 8 yard skip: The classic option for builders. Holds about 70–80 bin bags, making it suitable for heavier waste like soil, bricks, and rubble.
- 10 yard skip: Great for bulkier waste such as furniture or larger clearances.
- 12 yard skip: Perfect when clearing multiple rooms or handling light construction waste. Holds around 110–120 bin bags.
If you’re tackling a home renovation, extension or big garden job, one of these is usually the best fit.
Large Skips & RoRos
When it comes to whole-house clearances, large building work or commercial projects, you might need a 14 yard skip, 16 yard skip, or even a roll-on roll-off container. These are designed for serious waste volumes, handling everything from bulky furniture to demolition rubble.
