Skip Hire FAQs

Do you offer skip hire near me?

We provide skip hire right across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, including towns such as Baldock, Biggleswade, Hitchin, Royston, Harpenden, Luton, Watford, and Leighton Buzzard. To make things simple, you can use our postcode checker on our booking page (link to Hire A Skip Page) to instantly confirm if we deliver to your area.

How long can I hire a skip for?

Our standard hire period is up to 2 weeks. If you need the skip for longer, we can usually arrange an extension for a small daily fee.

What can I put in a skip?

  • Our general waste skips are for mixed everyday rubbish from household, garden and construction projects. We also provide specific skips for single waste streams such as plasterboard, wood, garden waste, and inert, which helps keep costs down and makes recycling more efficient.
  • For safety, environmental and handling reasons, there are items we cannot accept in any of our skips. These include:
  • Hazardous waste: paints, chemicals, asbestos, flammable, toxic or water-reactive substances, medical or clinical waste, animal or human waste.
  • Liquids and oils: any liquids, including cooking oil.
  • Bulky items: large pipes, tractor or digger tyres
  • If you’re unsure whether an item can go in your skip, please visit our ‘What Can Go In A Skip?’ page (internal link) for more details or contact our team, we’ll be happy to advise on safe disposal alternatives.

How much does skip hire cost?

Our skip hire prices are transparent with no hidden charges, and the final cost will depend on the skip size and your location. You can get an instant quote online through our booking page or by calling our friendly office team.

How much space is needed for delivery and collection?

Our lorries require at least 10 feet of width for safe access through gates, driveways, or narrow roads. If you’re unsure whether access will be possible, speak to our team before booking and we’ll be happy to advise.

Can you help me decide what size skip I need?

Absolutely. Choosing the right skip size can feel tricky, but our team is here to help. With a few quick questions about your project, we can recommend the best option for your needs. To give you an idea, here are the skips we offer and their typical uses:
  • Mini Skips (4 & 6 yard): Ideal for garden waste, small DIY jobs and minor home clearances.
  • Midi Skips (8, 10 & 12 yard): Perfect for kitchen or bathroom renovations, medium-sized projects and light construction waste.
  • Large Skips (14 & 16 yard): Great for full house clearances, bulky items, large refurbishments and heavier building waste.
  • RoRo Containers (20, 25, 35 & 40 yard): Best for large commercial or industrial waste, demolition projects and high-volume material removal

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand plans change. If you need to rearrange your delivery or swap your skip, please let us know as soon as possible. If the driver hasn’t already left our depot, we can adjust your booking without a problem. If you decide to cancel altogether, please let us know the day before delivery and we’ll remove the booking.

Is delivery and collection arranged in advance?

Yes, both delivery and collection are booked with you when you place your order. If you need your skip exchanged or emptied before collection, we can arrange that too. For more precise delivery windows, our office team can provide an estimated time slot on request.

Where can my skip be placed?

Skips should be placed on a solid, flat surface. If they’re positioned on soft ground, our drivers will use protective boards, but indentations may still occur due to the weight. Once delivered, skips must not be moved from their set position.

Do I need a permit?

If your skip is placed on private land, such as a driveway, you do not need a permit. If you plan to hire a skip and place it on a public road or verge, you must obtain a permit from your local council before delivery. We are happy to advise on whether a permit is required and what to ask for, but the application and payment are your responsibility. Permit costs and processing times vary by council, so please apply in good time. Your council may also require the skip to be lit at night and fitted with reflective markings.
